How to Download and Update Subscriptions

Click the on the Readmine Toolbar and you will see the following message box appear

Click Yes and Readmine will start downloading updates from all your subscriptions. You will see the following Progress dialog appear.

You can click the Hide button and continue to use Readmine whilst it downloads and updates your subscriptions in the background

How to Add Subscriptions to your subscriptions list

RSS Feeds are available on all good blogs and many web pages. Look out for the word RSS, Feed, Subscribe if you want to download updates of the page you are browsing. You can also search for RSS feeds with a simple query like: science feeds rss - to search for RSS feeds related to scien.

There are 4 ways to add subscriptions to your subscriptions list.

1) If you see an RSS Icon (or ) or RSS Link on a web page when browsing with Readmine simply Drag and Drop the RSS Subscription link to the Readmine Subscriptions list

2) Click on the RSS Icon (or ) Link and Readmine will ask you if you want to add it to your subscriptions list

3) If you see an RSS Icon in the Readmine Address Bar click the RSS icon and Readmine will ask if you want to add the RSS Feed to your Subscriptions list

4) If you know the link of the RSS Subscription or have copied it to the clipboard, right click on the subscriptions list and you will see the following menu

Select Add Feed and the following dialog will appear and you can type or paste your RSS Subscription link into the URL Box.

If Readmine detects an available feed on the page you are browsing it will automatically insert it in the Url Box. Click Ok and the Feed will be added to your subscription list. If you want to add the feed to a particular category on the Subscription list select the category from the Category pull down box. If you want to create a new category Click the Arrow button next to the category Box and it will show a complete list of all your Categories. You can then right click on a category and select New Category as shown below

How To import an OPML file

There are two ways to import an opml file into Readmine

1) If the OPML file is available from a web page you can simply click on the link to the OPML file on the web page you are browsing with Readmine and Readmine will ask if you want to import the OPML file

2) If you have a local copy of an OPML file you wish to import

Click in the top right hand corner

Select Import/Export

 

Select Import OPML

Then select the OPML file you wish to import and click Open. Readmine will then import all the RSS contents and structure of the OPML file.

 

How to Add a Friend

Click the Right mouse button on Friends in the Tree on the left

Select Add Friend from the Menu

You will then see the Add Friend Dialog to enter details about your Friend:

Enter the email address of your Friend and Readmine will see if your friend has registered that email address when signup with Readmine and if so will enter their Readmine User. If you know your Friends Readmine username you can enter that and Readmine will make the connection.

You can then enter a nickname for your Friend which will display on your friends list - just like it does with an instant messenger

You can enter or select a Group (if you have already created one) to add your friend to. It is a good idea to organize your friends by group to make it easier ot mange your list of friends. You can also send a message or drag and drop a selection from the web browser to a group and it will then send the message or selection to all your friends in the group.

Click the Save button and your Friend will appear on your Friends list ready for you to send a message or drag and drop a selection from the web browser to your friends. The first time you send a message or selection to your friend, your friend will be asked if they want to authorize to receive messages and items from you. If a Friend adds you to their list and they are not on your list, you will be asked if you want to Authorize them. If you do not authorize them you will not receive any messages or items from them.

How to send snippets or pages to your Friend(s)

1) Select a snippet (by clicking once and then dragging the mouse across a selection of the page) or Press Ctrl+A to select the whole page, then click and Drag the selected area to a Friend on your friends.

2) If you can not see your friend on the list, simply hold the mouse pointer over Friends and the tree will expand to show you the Friend Groups, then hold your mouse over a Group where you friend is and then your list of friends for that group will appear.

3) When you have the mouse pointer over the friend you want to send the selection to, let go of the mouse button and the following Send Message dialog will appear:

4) Type a message in the subject line. This is what will appear in the list on your Friends Readmine list of messages sent and recieved from you. If your friend will recieve your message by email this is what will appear in the email subject line.

5) Type a message in the message box (optional but recommended)

6) Press the Send button and the message will be sent

How to Publish a blog Item

When you first setup Readmine on the first Wizard panel you will be asked if you want to create a blog. Tick the box and Readmine will setup a blog for you at http://yourusername.readmine.net.

TO add a blog item press the Add Blog Item button on the smaller toolbar and you will then see the bottom of the Readmine screen appear as follows

1) Type a title for your blog entry in the Blog Title box. The blog title is what will appear in the Blog Items list for the blog entry.

 

2) Type your blog entry in the Bix Text Area edit box below the editor toolbar:

3) When you have finished your entry press the Save button and your blog entry and it will be saved on your hard drive

4) To publish your blog entry to your blog press the Publish blog items button on the small toolbar and you will see the following screen.

5) Readmine will automatically select the items that are new and have not been published (or uploaded) to your blog. You can unselect items you do not want to publish or select other items you want to publish again (if you have edited them).

6) When you are ready press the 'Publish' button and Readmine will publish (upload) your blog entries to your blog). Readmine will update your blog within 15 minutes of you uploading your blog items.

7) To view your blog type http://yourreadmineusername.readmine.netinto your web broswer or double click your Blog under My Blogs and it will appear in a web browser tab within Readmine

How to Add a Readlist

A readlist is a great way to get a specific list of items for specific words and/or without specific words. To add a readlist

1) Right click on Readlist on the tree and

2) Select Add Readlist

3) Enter the Readlist settings

Enter a Readlist title. This will appear under Readlist on the tree.

"With all these words" : enter all the words that must appear in each item for the item to be selected to appear in your readlist

"With at least one of these words": An item will display in your readlist so long as it has one of the words entered in this box

"Without the words":  If an item contains any of these words it will not appear in the Readlist

If you want a series of words to be treated as one i.e Social Networking simply entered the words within quotes " " i.e "Social Networking". Doing so will treat the words as one word. Words entered in Readlist settings are NOT CASE SENSITIVE.
